After the outbreak was brought under control in Shanghai, it was announced that factory production and operations would resume from June 1.
As manufacturers and logistics service providers gradually resumed production, daily container throughput at The Port of Shanghai was around 107,500 teUS, 95 percent of the normal level.
The average daily container throughput of ports in the Yangtze River Delta region was 254,700 TEUS, up 1.2 percent year on year.
Gu Jinshan, chairman of Shanghai Port Group (SIPG), said the port of Shanghai fully supports the stability of port operations during and after the epidemic, and will make every effort to ensure Shanghai’s position as the world’s busiest container port.
In order to maintain round-the-clock operation of the Shanghai Port during the lockdown period, more than 20,000 employees have been working and living in the port since mid-March under closed-loop management, effectively helping the normal operation of the port.
In the first four months of this year, Shanghai’s container throughput reached 15.35 million teUS, up 1.9% year-on-year, making it the world’s busiest container port.
